Refs: | wiki: "In linguistics, homonyms, broadly defined, are words which are homographs (words that share the same spelling, regardless of pronunciation) or homophones (words that share the same pronunciation, regardless of spelling), or both. For example, according to this definition, the words row (propel with oars), row (argument) and row (a linear arrangement) are homonyms, as are the words see (vision) and sea (body of water). A more restrictive or technical definition sees homonyms as words that are simultaneously homographs and homophones[1] – that is to say they have identical spelling and pronunciation, whilst maintaining different meanings. Examples are the pair stalk (part of a plant) and stalk (follow/harass a person) and the pair left (past tense of leave) and left (opposite of right)." |
|
Comments: | Only according to the more restrictive definition do homonyms need to be spelt the same. That being said, since the broad definition of "homonym" includes pairs of words that don't have the same pronunciation, I think we should lead with "homophone". I don't think that x-ref is needed. |

Comments: | just stating it's an abbreviation used in dictionaries without noting what it abbreviates doesnt really help someone looking up the term also without the explanation in the first referenced entry most learners won't understand what a ku adjective is since googling ku adjective only gives you hits explaining the ku form of normal i-adjectives the second reference is there so you know where the 形 in the abbreviation is from; couldn't find an entry that has both letters of the abbreviation in it (e.g. 形容詞ク活用) side note: someone should probably do the same edit for the 形シク-antry (2733090) |
