Refs: | The youtube clip wouldn't run. https://tachiai.org/2019/10/02/whats-all-the-commotion-part-2-matchmaking/ - "If the gyoji deems the bout to be properly started, he will shout out hakkeyoi. Experienced rikishi who are in doubt if the situation is matta or not (e.g. if the opponent is not properly engaging), will listen for that “hakkeyoi” for a confirmation that they should not let down their guards." and later "If the rikishi go into a stalemate – which usually happens in a yotsu battle, as pushing-thrusting bouts tend to quickly resolve one way or the other, the gyoji will stop the “nokotta” and instead urge them to renew action, by shouting “hakkeyoi” again." |
|
Comments: | So according to the tachiai.org page it's used to get them going again when they stop AND at the start to get them moving in the first place. I really don't want to stray far from what all the references are saying. Maybe the extension to the note is enough. |

Comments: | I just picked a random Sumo match to demonstrate that this definition is fundamentally inadequate. It really doesn’t matter which match you observe, the Gyoji will shout はっけよい the instant the 立ち合い is successful. In the initial usage, it has nothing to do with the rikishi becoming motionless. If you watch this video, or any one of thousands of others, the minute the combatants make contact without triggering a false start, the Gyoji belts it out. |

Comments: | It's a fair point. GG5 has a combined entry for 尖らす and尖らせる (both transitive), and 口を尖らせる gets nearly 10 times as many hits as 口を尖らす. I'll think about this, and I'll also add an example using 口を尖らせる. |

Comments: | I have not altered the above, but I am picking up that the usage is likely to be "口を尖らせる; 口をとがらせる(くちをとがら)" as much as the above. Google search seems to show more hits for causability as opposed to the plain verb. Perhaps the two could be combined in one entry. Or, maybe, one should just accept that the plain verb is the basis. However, if causability is the natural idiom then it is as much the idiom as the plain verb. |

This is so commonly used that its definition is found in any English dictionary apart from mathematical term. On Japanese side, "株価 加速度的" will find things like "株価の加速度的な上昇". Those two are the most common expression on both language to describe any kind of curb which is more than linear growth. |

Comments: | It was in the text which I was reading and the first meaning matches context. That is also supported by your [A] link. The Google hits are good, but it would be difficult to tell just how many relate solely to the spectrum without a thorough search. Maybe your larger dictionaries will confirm. However, it is just A+B+C; with all the individual parts already covered by your existing entries. I have made the submission because the A+B+C would fall short of the first meaning; if indeed it is used that way generally. |

Comments: | Hi. There are many cases where an initial dictionary search throws up no exact results but says "longer match available", with a link, yet following the link just gives the message "No matches were found for this key!". 翻訳語 is one random example, but it happens frequently to me, and is somewhat annoying. It would be good to stop that "longer match available" text appearing unless there really is something more available. |
