Added sense. Oddly, koj is the only kokugo that has it.
The "quickly (of actions, changes, etc.)" sense appears to be obsolete. Also, I think "suddenly" is a better translation.

Without going the encyclopedic route here, are there any other expressions available for 願解き in other dictionaries? (At least in Okinawa, perhaps elsewhere) it is used to mean something along the lines of "canceling a request" to the gods (because it has been fulfilled, in which case it is accompanied by expressions of gratitude, or otherwise become irrelevant, in which case a different request may be submitted) - but i can't find a suitable expression for this. In any case, "release from a vow" seems to me too narrow: that would seem to apply only to people, not to gods...

I see all the references have this as two entries:
退ける/除ける/のける - all senses
退ける/どける: sense 1 only
While the merge sort-of makes sense, it probably is a bit aggressive and makes for messy sense restrictions. Probably better to crack it open. I'll set it up that way. Example sentences are for どける only.
Not sure of that restriction on sense 2.
Quite possibly uk.

The references don't distinguish between the various readings as to the meaning. The images are different, but one can't place too much stress on them as it's Google fishing an image out of a page containing a term without any reference to the real association. GG5 daijr koj all give 堰き止める
daijr and koj have an entry for 塞く・堰く(せく)
  Comments:
* Remove [ok] from 堰き止める
堰く is a legit alternative spelling of 塞く(せく) – it’s not just used in the nominalized (okurigana-less) 堰(せき) (I assume this is the confusion that resulted in this getting flagged [oK] in the first place), and as this is a compound verb, proper form is to write the verb stem (堰き), not the deverbal (nominalized) verb (堰).
* Also, clarify secondary sense

Clarify that this is a depressive *state* (i.e., depressed at that moment), rather than the disease of being always depressed.

I had started a response to this thread, not noticing this one from Robin (the order being changed.) I think the suggested approach is sound. I'm keen to get the more common nakaguro versions searchable.
I'll approve this and reopen it.
9. A* 2023-02-19 23:20:54  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I'm planning to raise an issue about this on GitHub. I'm going to suggest that we copy GG5's approach and have only a single visible reading – *with* nakaguro – for all non-[uk] acronyms. The nakaguro-less forms would be search-only (as would readings that contain variant pronunciations of letters). I've made an edit to show what this would look like on this entry.

There's a problem in that めっちゃ is aligned with 目茶 and 滅茶 (both ateji), and むっちゃ (if it has kanji at all) would be 無茶 (as with むちゃ). It probably should be merged with 1530670 (無茶/むちゃ).
I'll propose that.

  Comments:
It's 購買 as an abbreviation for 購買部, which we didn't have listed, so I've submitted an amendment to that entry. But after I did that, I noticed "校売" does get 3,700 Google hits, so that might be enough to list it as [iK] with a sense restriction.

  Comments:
I believe this is an abbrivation from a longer word, but since I've only heard this one, I can't even begin to imagine what the actual name would be. Also, kanji might be wrong; first kanji could be 交 and second 買.
