Comments: | I really don't think we can expect our users to understand that "as たって" (or "as ~たって") is supposed to refer to a verb in the past tense +って. I think we should be explicit. Also, I think we should get rid of the たって entry, even if it's in the kokugos. I don't think it makes sense in a wa-ei dictionary. I'd much rather we covered that use here. I don't think anybody encountering [past tense verb]+って is likely to arrive at that entry rather than this one. __ I think "indicates supposition" was a bad take (it was mine). |

Comments: | Not sure it's really two senses. I don't recall the details of when I suggested saying "see below", but I think it was in the context of putting in quite a lot of detailed support. If you have seen something in specific WWW pages that back up the submission, the URLs should really go in the Ref section. In the absence of specific references, it's probably better to leave it blank, but bear in mind that a lack of references really means someone (else) has to go looking for them. In this case I checked the Tanaka corpus (16 usages, all sense 1), the examples in GG5 (about 10 uses, all sense 1) and Eijiro (about 20, of which two support sense 2.) It's interesting that many refs have 毎晩, etc. but not その晩. I think it's a case of follow-the-leader. |

Jim and i should not have to go hunting for verification", I should state that it was Jim who suggested that I should use "See below". I am the novice here. I search your site for help. When I cannot find what I am looking for, I draw it to your attention on the basis that it may be of help to you in compiling a dictionary which serves all. Usually, I have looked first at my own dictionaries, then if I cannot find it there I look on your site. Then I may search around some more to be helpful. I assume that when my submission arrives in the laps of the experts, it is only a matter of them deciding whether or not the submission is worth including or not. If the experts are put to great work in trying to find supporting evidence, then that demonstrates the need of the expert as opposed to a novice like me. I work predominantly on the basis of logic in the process of trying to be helpful. I am not part of the team of compilers, I am just the novice who makes use of your very valuable dictionary on a regular basis. So, if I am being less than helpful, then I will not waste your time in making submissions. Returning to this submission. This appears in text often. It has many Google hits. The meaning is basically obvious, however, its inclusion would not be incompatible with entries such as the following:- 一晩(P); ひと晩 【ひとばん】 (n-adv,n-t) one evening; all night; overnight; (P) 毎晩 【まいばん】 (n-adv,n-t) every night; (P) |

Comments: | Robin, I've mentioned this previously but the version of Nikkoku that was available on yahoo pre 201X was a completely different beast from the abridged version on kotobank today. It certainly doesn't matter all that much in a rare entry that we might not have even bothered adding in the first place today but I must confess it irks me when you remove things I've added with a "I don't know where it came from" when the original submission cites Nikk, and was approved by another editor who at the time would have had access to the same edition. |

Comments: | NASA is a bit of a red herring. The Japanese say ジス for JIS and ジャスダック for JASDAQ. I think what we're seeing here is a sort of 義訓. People see TV and think テレビ, but like Rene I think it's too much to call テレビ a reading. I can accept 田舎 being read いなか, and (worse) 啄木鳥 being read けら, but merging テレビ into TV/ティーブイ it's a step too far. How about a two-way xref with notes? I'll set one up here, and it can be used with OP if accepted. |

Comments: | Abbreviations aren't always read exactly as they're written. Consider "etc." - if we used this spelling as a headword, wouldn't it make sense to add エトセトラ as a reading? daijr actually does エトセトラ【et cetera】 以下に列挙すべき語を省略する場合に用いる。…等々。…など。その他 いろいろ。 〔etc.; &c. とも書く〕 _ "NASA" is never read as "N, A, S, A" but always as "Nasa". If it's the way it's read, I'd say yes. _ Merging is maybe a little extreme since no other dictionary does this, I don't know, but I think there's at least a case for adding a note. |
