Comments: | I think it's best to think of おなかがぺこぺこ/腹がぺこぺこ as set phrases. ぺこぺこ always refers to hunger. I don't think "empty" would be a helpful translation here. |
|
9. | A* 2022-02-15 00:47:18 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I did mean "hungry", because the subject is usually (always?) お腹 - お腹がペコペコ. You don't say your stomach is hungry. "empty (of stomach)"? |

Comments: | I assume you meant to write something other than "hungry". I don't think we should use adjective glosses for sense 3. Only daijs and nikk have it as an adjective. Sense 1 is 形動 in the kokugos. I think adj-na is fine. It's just almost always predicative. I don't think the x-refs are needed. |

Comments: | Considering this is [sl], by the numbers "livestream" now exceeds "live stream" online (perhaps 2x), and has dictionary support. Since this might legitimately come up in E->J searches, probably worth having multiple forms on this term in particular. As an actual slang suffix, the bare word "stream" seems most likely to be applicable. "streams" are practically live by definition, (barring "streaming of prerecorded content", which is more of an anomaly where these terms appear). "live (online) broadcast" might be better as an [expl]. 歌枠 have grown in popularity, and probably has 100,000+ examples online. We don't need to have the xref I guess, but it does make the term far more comprehensible if you're just encountering 枠 from an unrelated sense. It's a term likely of interest to young Japanese learners. On submission, noticed 歌枠 was used to create [6] back in 2021. As I found this term the exact same way, this seems like a good exemplar. |

Comments: | "Tael" is the English word for the Chinese unit (of weight and currency) 兩 (liǎng). The Japanese unit of weight 両 (りょう) is essentially the same unit, so I think it can be glossed "tael". The Japanese unit of currency is not the same as the Chinese; it is the value of one unit of weight of gold, while in China it is silver, so here I think "tael" would not work. |

Comments: | I agree with Rene on "(w". The ( serves basically the same function as (). It has no meaning and it's not pronounced. I don't think it should be included here. However, I agree with Marcus that 笑 should remain as a headword. We lose the わら reading if it's dropped from here. The same applies to w. I think 笑 should come before w. It must be the more common form overall. Finally, I wouldn't call this an abbreviation. 笑 and 笑い are used differently. |

Comments: | Should this be [col]? Daijs marks the appearance of this sense on 提灯 itself as 俗. While you can't always determine everything from web searches, I think the ngrams on はなちょうちん(7772) vs はなぢょうちん(0) are fairly definitive, regardless of daijs' oddball 洟提灯 entry. (twitter usage mirrors this) I cannot help but think we'd be better off with [sk] on はなぢょうちん, at least until the day someone shows up with real-world experience to the contrary. I picked [ok] for lack of a better option. If we take daijs' word that it used to exist, well, it seems obsolete now... |
