yes, i'm happy leaving it just as 'gratin'. google image hits are basically identical. also, グラタン皿 is comfortably (and probably better) translated as 'gratin dish', so i don't see that the addition is necessary. gratin is グラタン and casserole is キャセロール

The "sometimes" might better be "originally".
As for ん, that's already a headword in 2139720, where sense 3 says "abbr. of particle "no"". So searching for it gets you to the right place. The entry for の is complicated enough already, and we've split 乃/之 to declutter it. I think keeping ん apart too is appropriate.

When this kanji was added to the 常用漢字 the 頰 version was used - it had only recently come available via Unicode. 頬 had been around for years before then.
How are we going to handle the 頰 versions, which are still rather rare? I guess we have to make them [rK] and keep them visible.

I note that GG5 only has 唐物/とうぶつ, which supports Rene's position. I'm quite comfortable with とうぶつ going first.
My IME (Canna dictionary) does the same, but really that is not an argument for one reading or the other for a specific lexeme like this one.
I see for 唐物屋 Daijirin has both とうぶつや and からものや with quite different meanings.

when I type からもの, my (standard windows) converter turns it
into 唐物 (as one word, pressing space changes both at once)
without any problems, but when I type とうぶつ that's not
recognized as a single word and I get two separate lines
under each kanji (i.e. pressing space changes only one kanji
) and 党物 etc.
Reading 唐 as から isn't that uncommon either (唐揚げ etc.),
so I don't think it's the case that everybody would
automatically assume it's read as とうふつ over からもの.

Clarify defn:
* make “railing” first – balustrade is a bit technical; formally it refers to a western design with many vertical elements, which is not common in (traditional) Japanese architecture; daijr has a good illustration
* give examples
* remove “banister”/“bannister”, which (as per WP/WT) specifically refers to *stairs* (dicts don’t mention stairs; that’s instead generally 手摺 “handrail”, AFAICT).
* Remove “handrail” also as more appropriate to 手摺
* add other sense of “armrest”

  Comments:
I was looking up the difference between 軒 and 庇 and it seems that the translation "eaves (of roof)" seems to be incorrect.
軒 is the part of the roof that overhangs the wall (=eaves)
庇 is attached to a wall and overhangs windows and doors, kind of like awning/sunshade except solid

this page has a good diagram https://www.pal-ds.net/住宅まめ知識ー軒と庇/

Nelson (old & new) and S&H have ふくらはぎ as a reading of 腓.
GG5 for its ふくらはぎ entry has:
ふくらはぎ【脹ら脛・腓】
【解】 the calf 《pl. calves》.
  Comments:
I'm happy keep ふくらはぎ as a reading of 腓 (Koj says its a meaning), but I think a merge of the 脹ら脛 and 腓 entries is probably creating a bit of a mess. I think I'll suggest adding 腓 the ふくらはぎ as a note.

  Comments:
i think this is a mistranslation in gg5, based on ambiguity in 現業. normally it means 'on-site work', but here it refers to 三公社五現業. koj defines 現業庁 as: 現業をつかさどる行政機関。郵便局・印刷局・造幣局等が民営化・独立行政法人化されて現在では林野庁のみが残る。 daijs extends it to things like the Meteorological Agency... it's hard to see how that translates to 'government agency in charge of work-site operations', which makes it sound like it's a labour safety board or something.

  Comments:
Read today as 無一物 (from a monk) – this is the long form.
本来 is ambiguous (essentially vs. from), and I think both senses are intended, though “essentially *are* nothing” is probably more precise.
