Comments: | yes, i'm happy leaving it just as 'gratin'. google image hits are basically identical. also, グラタン皿 is comfortably (and probably better) translated as 'gratin dish', so i don't see that the addition is necessary. gratin is グラタン and casserole is キャセロール |

Comments: | Um. I'm a bit wary here. I've eaten/seen many a グラタン in Japan, and never seen anything like a casserole called "グラタン". GG5 glosses グラタン皿 as "a casserole", but that's the dish. |

Comments: | I note that GG5 only has 唐物/とうぶつ, which supports Rene's position. I'm quite comfortable with とうぶつ going first. My IME (Canna dictionary) does the same, but really that is not an argument for one reading or the other for a specific lexeme like this one. I see for 唐物屋 Daijirin has both とうぶつや and からものや with quite different meanings. |

Comments: | when I type からもの, my (standard windows) converter turns it into 唐物 (as one word, pressing space changes both at once) without any problems, but when I type とうぶつ that's not recognized as a single word and I get two separate lines under each kanji (i.e. pressing space changes only one kanji ) and 党物 etc. Reading 唐 as から isn't that uncommon either (唐揚げ etc.), so I don't think it's the case that everybody would automatically assume it's read as とうふつ over からもの. |

Comments: | "掘りつくす" was in the text. I searched and found the entry for promotion as "掘り尽くす". When I clicked on "G" search, the result was 9k hits. So I suggested promotion. I am not sure about your comment Jim. I did not keep a record of the actual submission. Perhaps I did make a mistake, but apart from the "堀りつくす[iK]" which I do not recall adding, the entry seems as it ought to be. Rene seems to have marked it as "accepted" so perhaps my additional comment here is not now relevant. |

Comments: | BTW, the 関東弁 terms are, AFAICT: こんど、つぎ、つぎつぎ (今度、次、次々) (often kana) …which in 関西弁 are instead: 先発、次発、次々発 (せんぱつ、じはつ、じじはつ) (usually (always?) kanji) |

Refs: | 1,100,000 次々発 3,990 次次発 Discussion of reading: http://okwave.jp/qa/q378705.html |

Comments: | See discussion at 2713520 次発 – common in Kansai (only at larger stations though, naturally – more 大阪 than 京都) The reading is obvious enough from 次発(じはつ) though as the linked page notes, this is mostly just used for display, as 「じじはつは◯◯です」 would be very confusing as an announcement. No explanation, as sufficiently addressed at 次発 |
