|
Comments: | As per René’s comment at 学び舎, we’re considering 学舎(まなびや) as irregular okurigana, presumably due to confusion with 学舎(がくしゃ) (this entry). Thus we should remove the まなびや from this entry, correct? (I earlier proposed a merge, but René replied that 学舎(まなびや) is an irregular okurigana, and we don’t merge on these. Since we’re keeping these separate, I’m cleaning up to make sure they’re properly distinguished.) * Remove まなびや reading * Add cross reference to 学び舎 |

Refs: | See below. |
|
Comments: | I have not amended the above. My purpose in making this subission is related to the little flick-up in the downward strokes of some kanji, for example: "円". In a kanji guide, it refers to this little flick-up as the "はねる", but it does not give the kanji for that reading, nor do my travelling dictionaries. If "跳ねる" is the correct kanji, then it may be helpful to include the reference to the little flick-up in kanji in the entry for this. Then if anyone searched they would see the connection, e.g., to spring up. Maybe, the correct kanji is "撥ねる 【 はねる 】 to point or curl up (e.g. ends of hair)". |

Comments: | * Elaborate gloss (“conditions”) * Add “fine day” * Add suffix sense * Add びより reading (used iff a suffix) * Mark as [ateji], as per koj (より is a less common reading for 和, though we do have it in the kanji dic) * Add sea/sailing sense, as both daijr & koj use it, though I suspect this is archaic (daijr gives it last, koj gives it first, an example from 源平). Just heard as 買い物日和(かいものびより); we already have 散歩日和 and 行楽日和. |

Comments: | I think we have a bit of an issue between the names of kanji radicals, e.g. 国構え/くにがまえ and 之繞/しんにゅう, and the radicals themselves, e.g. 囗 and 辶/辵. The former are quite valid entries, the latter .... well maybe. I think we need a clear policy. I'm experimenting with putting the radical (囗) in as a note in the name entry. It can't be an xref, as 囗 is not an entry (it is not a word in its own right.) |

Comments: | I have not changed the above because there may be some technical reason why it may be correct. However, as far as I understand it, a country radical does not exist. The kanji "国" is itself created from a combination of three radicals. The enclosing radical [31], plus [22] and [247]. The name of "くに" may have been derived from "国", but the radical "31" has its own reading, i.e., 囗 [JIS] 5378 [Uni] 56d7 [部首] 31 [画数] 3 [音] イ コク [部] くにがまえ [英] box or enclosure radical (no. 31); box. However, a search for "くにがまえ" does not find the above radical. Also, of course, the "box" radical is used in lots of situations which have nothing whatsoever to do with "country". Over to your experts for another look. I know that your site has been tested by experts so my apologies if my research is incorrect. |

The fact that it sometimes used to apply to a male doesn't really change the base meaning. |

Comments: | This submission gets a good number of Google hits. It was in text which I was reading and maybe it could be added. You already have the following so it would not be out of place, so to speak:- 発明家 【はつめいか】 (n) inventor 発明者 【はつめいしゃ】 (n) inventor エジソン効果 【エジソンこうか】 (n) Edison effect (thermionic emission from a heated metal or semiconductor) |

Comments: | That would be a nice not-so-little project for someone. In the version of ENAMDICT used by WWWJDIC I attempt to move the more common readings to the front, which is why すがはら comes first. The rest are in 五十音 order. In the combined file they are just individual entries. |

Comments: | Hi, 管原 is listed in the "combined" dictionaries, as are many other names, which is useful. However, it would be very helpful, with all these names, to have an indication of how common the various pronunciations are. For example, in some cases (not necessarily this one; I'm not sure) some pronunciations may be vastly more frequent than others, but there's currently no way of telling. I know it's quite a lot of work, but it would be a useful enhancement if anyone ever has the time and inclination. |
