weird.  the test i've been using to see if a kanji can make it into the dictionary or not is to just copy-paste it into the kanjidic search with the JIS 212 box checked.  but i guess that doesn't always work

I think we have a bit of an issue between the names of kanji radicals, e.g. 国構え/くにがまえ and 之繞/しんにゅう, and the radicals themselves, e.g. 囗 and 辶/辵. The former are quite valid entries, the latter .... well maybe.
I think we need a clear policy. I'm experimenting with putting the radical (囗) in as a note in the name entry. It can't be an xref, as 囗 is not an entry (it is not a word in its own right.)

I have  not changed the above because there may be some technical reason why it may be correct. However, as far as I understand it, a country radical does not exist. The kanji "国" is itself created from a combination of three radicals. The enclosing radical [31], plus [22] and [247].

The name of "くに" may have been derived from "国", but the radical "31" has its own reading, i.e.,

囗 [JIS] 5378 [Uni] 56d7 [部首] 31 [画数] 3  [音] イ コク  [部] くにがまえ  [英]  box or enclosure radical (no. 31); box.

However, a search for "くにがまえ" does not find the above radical.

Also, of course, the "box" radical is used in lots of situations which have nothing whatsoever to do with "country".

Summary - from what I can find, at least, it appears that [1] and [2] are far and away predominantly katakana. For [3], hiragana wins out, but not by a huge margin, and [see=どす黒い] removes that ambiguity. [4] is very different from the other terms, and has a restriction already.  Counts don't appear to be influenced significantly by DOS/MS-DOS. [2] generally dominates the other counts, [1] is relatively rare in general. (should these be re-ordered?). I changed the ドス /どす ordering after editing ドスのきいた.  I won't post the long list, but if you do an n-gram search for the top 10/100 entries for

You'll see that first, the list is absolutely overwhelmed by the 脅す meaning(using 効かす・利かせる and even the mistaken 聞かせる), and second,  ドス is the dominant form.
ドスを and　どすを are similarly overwhelmed by a grammatical variation of the same structure.

For the knife, while even sankoku lists primarily under どす, I suspect this is a reflection of it being a "native" and historical Japanese word. I don't know if they would ever handle such a case with ドス(「どす」とも書く).

It actually appears rare that ms-dos was written as　ドス. the wikipedia page for ドス doesn't even list DOS or MS-DOS as disambiguation options. Google "ドスソフト" or "ドス・ソフト" or "ドスのソフト" and you get almost nothing. Replace with "DOSソフト" or "DOSのソフト" or "MS-DOSソフト" and you'll get results. It seems the trendy thing for Japanese people to do might have been to use the English acronym, like DVD etc.

I'm not convinced ドス should lead. The JEs don't have it and most kokugos don't mention it. I think it's possibly noise from DOS.

Ref has "an eccentric [a strange, a spacey] girl; Little Miss Spacey." I think "eccentric girl" would be a good gloss. "slightly mysterious or hard-to-understand person" is really a longer way of saying that. Both refs state it is a woman. The fact that it sometimes used to apply to a male doesn't really change the base meaning.

OK, it has been included in the 行人偏 entry.

This should possibly be included in entry 2175860 (行人偏). I can't see 彳偏 used much. 辶 (162) is in this category.

"familiar language" sounds very weird to me. I'm not overly fussed though
