Comments: | "Hな映画" gets quite a few hits (285k), but no dictionary entries as far as I can see. Is this really more than the sum of the parts? Also 2nd hit on google for "エッチな映画" http://oshiete.goo.ne.jp/qa/3318132.html "ポルノじゃない結構エッチな映画を探しています。" so it can even be a bit misleading |

Comments: | There's a tool here that attempts to decipher censored text such as う○こ: http://fuseji.net/ Applications such as jisho.org also support regex wildcard searches. For example a search for "う?こ" will bring up all possible matches. IMO, handling these sorts of forms seems outside the scope of jmdict's capabilities. |

Comments: | I don't think "col" is needed. Children's language is colloquial by default. I don't think う○こ should be included. All sorts of words can be censored using ○; I think it's unlikely that users would look up them. Also, ○ isn't kana. It would need to go in the kanji field but having an sK form as the only kanji form on an entry is problematic. |

Comments: | One wit said that lexicographers are divided into "splitters and clumpers". I'm fairly much in the clumper camp, which is probably why JMdict is the way it is. That said, I agree that へ/おなら is a real borderline case, and is a shining example of the messiness of Japanese orthography. If there was a clean usage split between へ and おなら, e.g. one was always polite/clinical and the other was always col/vulg, I'd put them in different senses with comments to indicate usage, but it seems both are used in both applications. On balance I think they should stay in the one entry. |

Comments: | I thought "grace of God" more or less covered covered daijr's sense 2 (where you express gratitude for some situation or result that didn't involve someone else's help or efforts), but on reflection, there's nothing inherently religious about "おかげさまで無事に帰って参りました". I'm not sure what the right approach is here. Probably best to drop the おかげさまで x-ref from the "grace (of God)" sense and instead just treat it as an extra-polite form of the equivalent おかげ sense (as in daijs). |

Comments: | I was speaking to my friend in Japan and was trying to explain the word "suspense", so looked it up. I said this one (kintama ga agattari kudattari), and she started laughing and said it must have been entered as a joke. She told me to look up "kintama" which apparently means "testicle." So, basically this means "testicles up or down" and while that may be how some people express "being held in suspense," I think it is explicit and should be at least marked as such. Please review this entry. |

Comments: | くそ is quite a bit tamer than "shit" so I propose leading with "damn". I don't think "bullshit" works. I don't think col is needed on senses 3 and 4. Also, these senses are prefixes according to the kokugos. Added an adj-na sense. I've tried improving the ...もくそもない sense. Also, I've changed the PoS to [n]; although we're translating the expression "...もくそもない", くそ itself is still a noun. |

The larger kinds place the dung in a hole before the eggs are laid, and some of them roll it along in a ball. Comments: | Saw at temple today (on a *really* archaic sign – e.g., writing 獵人 for 猟人), where it was glossed as へう. koj gives this reading in <>, and it feels antique, so I’ve listed it as [ok]. Word was used in describing 「虎の子渡し」 (carrying tiger cubs across a river one at a time – riddle being that you need to carry one *back*), which seems to be a main use of this (in Japanese). It’s a pretty well-known story, so the word does come up. Word overall looks terribly obscure (though understandable: tiger + hair), though admittedly the character is used in various names. |

Comments: | I don't think it's really archaic. It's obviously an old word (daijs: 名義抄), but it seems to be currently used at least as widely as many other non-archaic words in this dictionary. I think the lit was helpful, and I don't see why it'd be a problem to apply it to words that aren't expressions when it helps to clarify the meaning/nuance of a word? |

Comments: | It all started with me finding out that not one of the online dictionaries has an entry for "shipping crate". Of course, once i had found 貨物箱, i realized that even Japanese children would not need a dictionary to understand that word in Japanese - but how do you find out what 貨物箱 is _in English_ if you only know Japanese? THAT is the reason why it should be in the dictionaries! |
