weird. the test i've been using to see if a kanji can make it into the dictionary or not is to just copy-paste it into the kanjidic search with the JIS 212 box checked. but i guess that doesn't always work |

唎 is OK. It's JIS X 0212. It won't show up in the old EDICT.
That said, I'm surprised about 唎 being there. Is it just because it looks like 利? (the kanji are quite unrelated.) For that matter, what is the etymology of 利き酒? 聞き酒 sort-of makes sense. |

my google hits don't match yours. make sure you set google to limit to japanese hits only, use quotation marks around the search term and add a の to the search for good measure

Add more spellings, order them.
Despite various dicts (koj, 新解さん) giving 聞(き)酒 prominently, 利(き)酒 is overwhelmingly preferred, and 聞(き)酒 is about as frequent as 唎(き)酒 (which uses a rare character).
Speculating, I suspect that traditionally 唎/利 is the basic/original sense, but 唎 is rare/archaic, hence the preference for 利, and that 聞 is basically a variant spelling that has become accepted. |
