They are split between 何だ + から and 何 + だから, with a bias to the former. A general meaningful gloss is really impossible. |

Comments: | Some 84m hits come up on Google. Is this worth an inclusion along with similar expression? The novice is confused with A + B reasoning. On research he may readily find "なんだか" and "だから", but not the above expression. My own translation is somewhat variable according to the text which I am reading, but the above may be A + B, but is it correct? Can you dispose of this expression with the confirmation of your team by including it in the main dictionary? |

Comments: | Often this is followed by "なさい" and picks up the meaning of "Shut up!". Even without "なさい" it seems to have much the same meaning, as far as I can tell from context and searching around. It picks up quite a good measure of Google hit and I think you may wish to include it. If one follows the a + b concept, one may think that it is a polite way of seeking silence from someone for good reason where there is a need to interrupt a flow of speech. I guess that if my searching is right, then the a + b concept would be wrong. |

Comments: | There seems to be synonyms: cleansing reaction, cleanse reaction, Herxheimer reaction (or Jarish-Herxheimer reaction). For "cleansing reaction", I have found 浄化反応 (じょうかはんのう) which also is not in edict. There is also a book which title is : The Healing Crisis. (In french : "crise de guérison".) |
