Comments: | Was going to [sK], but just removed entirely. Here if you want to restore it: 胴像[sK] If it were common at all, I might say it's worth making the typo searchable, but we can't catch every typo here, and 0.04% typo with a fairly low absolute frequency doesn't seem worth recording. It would be better, I think, if this term didn't show up for a kanji search of 胴, which is how I found it. Unlike some other [iK] entries bronze + statue = "bronze statue" seems kind of unambiguous. 胴像 just looks like an IME/typo, and that seems reflected in the ngrams. I read the comments on the old 胴 entry: This tatoeaba sentence seems like a likely typo as well: 胴像は頭を持っていない。 例文 The statue has no head. I've left a note to this effect on tatoeba. One of the 2011 references is this: http://blog.webtravel.jp/partner44/index.php?itemid=3002 It spells 胴像 but mentions a specific statue "ジェルジンスキー像", which you can google, and is a quite-ordinary-looking bronze. Another ref, an archive.org link now: https://web.archive.org/web/20040508163939/http://www9.plala.or.jp/takedagun/siseki/Niigata/Joetu/K-maturi/K-maturi3.htm Has a pic of an ordinary bronze statue, writes "謙信公胴像の下に続々と" Google confirms this is a mistyping of 謙信公銅像. The other entries no longer exist, didn't bother to search on archive.org. |

Comments: | * Adding spelling 炻器 (is this ok now?) As per earlier comments, and seeing that partial JIS0213 is apparently ok now, should we add back 炻器? …and if so, as per Rene’s earlier comment (Comment 6 of 2012-03-16 06:18:28), we should split entries (b/c not merging on iK etc.) (Not doing this myself b/c wanted to leave up to editors.) |

Comments: | Agreed. The text glosser now says: 愛しさ from 愛しい 【いとしい】 (adj-i) lovely; dear; beloved; darling; (P); ED Actually I thought that was in all along, but when I checked yesterday it wasn't so I added it. All "adj-i" adjectives will now get that xxxさ match applied. It's not a problem with the regular lookup. I'll leave this open for a day or so, then close it off. |

Refs: | At the time of writing, Text Gloosing returns the following: * 愛し 《verb stem》 愛す 【あいす】 (v5s,vs-c,vt) (See 愛する) to love; (P); ED To people with only a marginal understanding of Japanese this is likely not helpful... ;-) In case no separate entry is desired, it would be useful if Xさ items were to point to related Xい items )in reference to Jim's comment)... |

Refs: | I question whether "serum" is an English word that can refer to liquid cosmetics. I suspect it's Japlish. In OED, I don't think there is a sense of "serum" that is similar to 美容液: . serum 1a. Watery animal fluid, normal or morbid; spec. blood-serum, the greenish yellow liquid which separates from the clot when blood coagulates. b. Therapeutics. The blood serum of an animal used as a therapeutic or diagnostic agent. 2a. attrib. (of 1), as serum albumin (cf. seralbumen n.), serum-globulin. b. Used attrib. (with or without a following hyphen) to denote (the concentration of) substances in the serum. . In Japanese, the word セラム is used, and it often seems to mean much the same thing as 美容液. But I don't think セラム means "serum" when used in the context of cosmetics. |

Comments: | I don't think this is entry necessary. We have a general policy against お-noun entries unless there is a dictionary reference for them (and in this case there is none). It's an obvious derived form in Japanese and no different than saying "Silence!" in English. |

Comments: | Often this is followed by "なさい" and picks up the meaning of "Shut up!". Even without "なさい" it seems to have much the same meaning, as far as I can tell from context and searching around. It picks up quite a good measure of Google hit and I think you may wish to include it. If one follows the a + b concept, one may think that it is a polite way of seeking silence from someone for good reason where there is a need to interrupt a flow of speech. I guess that if my searching is right, then the a + b concept would be wrong. |

Comments: | Naturally, I would like to see this included. The form without the "か" is included, e.g., 一日二日 【いちにちふつか】 (n,adv) a day or two On the basis of the a + b reasoning, this entry should be deleted. However, when trying to be clear about the correct reading, why not "ついたちかふつか"? Well if one searches for "一日" one gets:- 一日(P); 朔日; 朔 【ついたち(P); さくじつ(朔日); いっぴ(一日)】 (n) (1) (usu. 一日) first day of the month; (2) (ついたち only) (arch) first ten days of the lunar month; (P) Thus, "ついたち" cannot be correct, but wait, there is another entry for "一日", namely:- 一日(P); 1日 【いちにち(P); いちじつ; ひとひ(ok); ひとえ(ok)】 (n) (1) first day of the month; (2) (See ついたち) one day; (P) Are yes, we now have another choice of reading, namely: "いちじつ", but we see that in this case "いちにち(P); いちじつ" means "(1) first day of the month" and there is a link which indicates a meaning of "one day", but as stated above when we go to that link we discover that it is not "one day". Maybe the "ついたち link" should be with the "(1)" meaning and not the "(2)" meaning. Maybe, the novice would like some help with readings, even though a + b of the kanji give the clue. Perhaps the entry for "一日二日 【いちにちふつか】 (n,adv) a day or two" could be expanded to include this submission as an alternative. |

Comments: | I agree. I think the a+b approach should be taken here, i.e., this need not be an entry. |

Comments: | Google gives a good range of hits and the reading above. For the novice, the reading would remove doubts. However, the a + b approach would probably give a reasonable understanding. |
