Comments: | I think it should have an entry, like やりきれない, but I'm not adamant about it. There's also the dictionary entry for it http://thesaurus.weblio.jp/content/隠し切 %E3%82%8C%E3%81%AA%E3%81%84 |

Comments: | I agree with the reality of that, but because one cannot realistically have an entry for every verb+ きれない, it does not mean that one cannot have an entry for the most predominantly used verbs+ きれない. Indeed, that does happen on the site. From the novice's point of view, there are two problems: (i) the question of searching [if one sees “隠しきれない” and searches for a meaning on the site, nothing comes up]; and (ii) if one realises one can search for “きれない” one gets the current entry, but it is a further step to add that description to “隠す” and get to the nuance intended. Of course, again I accept that once one has understood that coupling, then every verb+ きれない makes sense in context. If for practical purposes, you are opposed to gradually including entries for the predominantly used verbs+ きれない, then I wonder if you could expand the description of “きれない” by showing a few examples of predominantly used verbs+ きれない with the specific description for the combination. Finally, although the added sample sentences do help, it is often the case that picking out the specific description for the particular verb is not always as clear as the novice would need to understand. Anyway, many thanks for giving this matter your consideration, which has prompted me to make this additional comment. As for me, personally, I have crossed the hurdle on this particular aspect so it is only your other users of the dictionary which are in focus; and I must accept that you have the experience and also that you must have the last word on these issues. |
|
7. | A* 2012-02-19 08:57:06 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | We can't have an entry for every_verb+きれない. This is the reason that we have entries for suffixes. I don't see a reason to single out 隠しきれない for inclusion. |
|

Comments: | I cannot help but agree to the observations about simplicity of the structure. However, the real issue is whether the simplicity of the structure, in the mind of the person who needs a dictionary, results in the understanding of the nuance intended by the user of the expression. Indeed, as with any language, the native speakers in general would understand the nuance of such expressions without even necessarily understanding the simplicity of the structure of the language. I may add, by way of compliment, that your dictionary demonstrates quite ably many examples where the true nuance of an expression could not have been understood by a novice who simply added A+B together. |

Comments: | I did try to amend the entry for “わ” by adding the extra reading because it seemed good to keep certain things together, but I seemed to create a syntax error. So, I have now tried the separate entry. However, I think that it would be good to have the three “わ, よ and わよ”together if possible so that the searcher can see the range of emphasis in one read. As far as I can see, you don't seem to have "わよ", but it is obviously very common with 24m Google hits. You do, of course, have "わ" and "よ" separately and on the A+B concept one could say that it means clearly "double" the amount of emphasis. However, it is the same thing as discussed before, does one aide the novice who wonders about the uncertainties, e.g., perhaps the "わ" is a question marker; perhaps "わよ" is a more emphasized question. Your site can remove such doubts; and in so many areas it does so - thankfully! |

Comments: | Saw at tea shop today, written as 宝ひん, though this spelling is v. rare. Very common type of tea pot – I’ve used repeatedly, but only learned the special name today. 宝瓶(ほうびょう) also appears in various dicts as a specialized Buddhist term. |

Comments: | In the text which I was reading, the paragraph began as follows:- ぶるっと身をふるわせて... The context was someone who was over excited and I guess that the body was shaking and [perhaps] shivering. When I sought confirmation on your site, I could not find the headword above. On Google we pick up nearly 18m. Maybe the "と" should not be included in the reading. |

Comments: | 1) i've added kana variants ハァハァ and フゥフゥ to the entries for はあはあ and ふうふう, respectively. 3800 hits is not enough to warrant this entry, in my opinion. 2) a puffin is a bird. |

Comments: | Google get about 3.8k for total expression. The text context is "huffing and puffin", but sighing would do also. That type of meaning is indicated on Google in parts, but .... |
