Refs: | The refs are inconsistent about whether the first sense is [vi] or [vt]. Iwakoku and sankoku have it tagged as both. Marcus commented on GitHub: >> I think hiding away the type of rare or obscure kanji that are still included in one or two kokugos with [sK] rather than tagging them as [rK] can lead to confusion This seems to be one such entry. I don't think there are too many others. In addition to meikyo, "胎む" is also recorded in kanjipedia and gendai reikai. I don't think there's a problem with making it [rK]. You can find even more kanji forms (胚む・娠む・姙む・肧む) for this word if you look through various kanwas. I think we have to draw a line somewhere. |

Comments: | I agree with your comments about the difficulty of tying it down. The native speaker says it and understands it without even being able to explain it. A little bit like the old comment from a scholar [forgotten the name] who said, "I know exactly what "time" is until I have to explain it in any meaningful detail." I am wondering if the following would be acceptable to you. If the searcher, like me, searches for the bit at the end of a sentence which reads "なのか" and comes up with nothing then that is a problem and leaves much doubt about what to do next. If you amended the entry for "なの" to include "なのか", then even though there may be many shades of grey which cannot be covered, the general concept would be understood. So for example:- なの (exp) (1) (fem) (col) (at sentence-end with falling intonation) used to make an assertion; (2) (fem) (col) (at sentence-end with rising intonation) used to ask a question; often followed by か (なのか) Then if in time anyone comes up with a better notion it can be revisited, but at least for the time the novice will find an acceptable answer. If however anyone concluded that "なのか" definitely means something else other than stated above, then that someone should not have too much difficulty in providing you with an adequate submission, so to speak! |
|
2. | A* 2012-10-30 10:31:44 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | At sentence end, this is (just) なの+か, and probably doesn't warrant an entry. But it's all over the place, and I doubt a useful coherent entry can be constructed. I'll leave it a few more days, but if nothing useful amerges, I'll delete it. |
|

Comments: | I have searched around for this in the same way that I did for "なのだ". You now have "なのだ" on the site and I thought that you may like to have "なのか" as a suffix included as well. It picks up masses of Google hits. My best finds for meaning meaning came up on Google, for example:- なぜ私は私なのか」(英:Why am I me ?)[WIKIPEDIA] どこなのか」. → Where is ∼? You have the following as a sentence end use:- なの (exp) (1) (fem) (col) (at sentence-end with falling intonation) used to make an assertion; (2) (fem) (col) (at sentence-end with rising intonation) used to ask a question. However, this does not help when the "なのか" is mid sentence. If my searches have come up with the wrong result, perhaps your experts can give the correct meaning so that an entry is available to help the searchers. |
