When I type in "ウ" as used in the text which I was reading, nothing came up; except RH:-

ウ 【う】 (?) ???; RH

You also have the following:-

鵜 【う】 (n) cormorant; Phalacrocorax carbo; JWN-02054036-n

However, there may be a reason why you do not use "ウ" for this entry because it seems to be the same for several of the entries where "鵜" is included, but again there are some which do include "ウ", e.g.,

ウミウ 《海鵜》 【うみう】 (n) (uk) Japanese cormorant (Phalacrocorax capillatus); Temminck's cormorant

The indirect language here isn't doing any favors for the intelligibility of this sense, which I think is already difficult to understand at a glance.

Is there any way to update the sentence meanings? E.g. to "He is a genuine Londoner." or "He's a Londoner, born and raised."

Sorry but I really don't think it's opaque. It has one meaning and can be added to all sorts of things. If we had an entry for everything it could be added to there'd be thousands.

Sounds like the employer was docking income to pay for social gatherings. It's really just a standard use of 費 as a suffix. I don't think this entry is lacking, and it certainly doesn't seem to justify an entry for 親睦会費 itself. Anyone want to propose one?

I was only motivated to make the submission for the reason stated, so if there is a problem of linkage then I guess that settles that matter. Having got to where I got to, I have satisfied my own need for information.

As of this year (2023), Japanese law has a single crime for rape that covers various circumstances. Before that, there was a distinction between "rape involving violence or threat" and "incapacitated rape". According to the kokugos, 暴行 refers to the former category.
In US federal law, the terminology is "by force or threat". Maybe just "by force" is sufficient.

I assume the intended nuance from "(violent)" might be similar to the typically-understood distinction between "assault" and "aggravated assault"? Of course the action in question is inherently violent, but we cannot deny that there is nevertheless a significant difference in *character* between the stereotypical "jumped in an alley" scenario versus the (tragically) more common "taken advantage of by someone you trust" scenario... Is there anyone familiar with how these distinctions are drawn in practice in, for example, Japanese law? What an unpleasant topic.

  Comments:
We typically only use field tags for terminology (i.e. technical or special terms). So 積分 gets a math tag but 数学者 does not. It has been suggested in the past that we expand the use of field tags to include all field-related terms but I'm not sure there's much enthusiasm for that idea. I'm quite happy with the current policy, which mirrors that of the JEs and English dictionaries.
Deciding what counts as "terminology" isn't an exact science, but simple A+B terms like 麻雀クラブ or 麻雀打ち wouldn't usually be tagged.
16. A* 2022-06-01 12:57:36  Stephen Kraus <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I thought the purpose of field tags was at least partially to
serve as metadata. For example, you can search "#mahj" on
jisho.org to bring up a list of all mahjong vocabulary.

If we're going to remove tags because they look redundant, should
we also remove the tag from 麻雀牌 ("mahjong tile"), 雀荘 ("mahjong
parlour; mahjong parlor"), 雀卓 ("mahjong table"), etc?

We're actually kind of inconsistent about this right now. In
addition to 麻雀, similar entries like 麻雀打ち and 麻雀クラブ
also don't have the tag.
15. A 2022-06-01 08:16:54  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Absolutely. The field tags should be dropped from 花札 and 相撲.

no idea how to gloss it, but i don't think 'irony' is right either. perhaps 'indicates rhetorical question' or something

I'd struggle to come up with one. I see Daijisen has "こんなまずいもの食えるか", which is more commonly seen as "こんなまずいもん食えるか" - from the examples around of that passage it's anything but ironical.

I really don't think we can expect our users to understand that "as たって" (or "as ~たって") is supposed to refer to a verb in the past tense +って. I think we should be explicit.

Also, I think we should get rid of the たって entry, even if it's in the kokugos. I don't think it makes sense in a wa-ei dictionary. I'd much rather we covered that use here. I don't think anybody encountering [past tense verb]+って is likely to arrive at that entry rather than this one.

__
I think "indicates supposition" was a bad take (it was mine).

I have not changed the above. In the text which I was reading it was included as "属する" so upon searching your site, I expected the above to have a "vs", but it did not. When I did some more searching, I found the following:-

属する 【ぞくする】 (vs-s,vi) to belong to; to come under; to be affiliated with; to be subject to; (P)

I guess that there is a good reason for the separation of the entries, but I am wondering if you would consider a cross-link so that the novice upon arriving at one entry can quickly see the relationship with the other entry.

ピストル is extremely common, so the lack of occurences of 輪胴式ピストル is notable.

回転式ピストル actually exists, but we don't have this entry. (not saying we should, you can't get everything)
輪胴式拳銃 doesn't have n-grams, but does occur in the wild, and we don't have this entry either.

輪胴式 is already well-glossed, so if you look up the first half, you don't even have to guess:
1. revolving chamber-style (e.g. pistol)

In fact, on twitter 輪胴式拳銃 is actually quite common:
https://twitter.com/search?q="輪胴式拳銃"&src=typed_query&f=live

so maybe delete this entry, and create 輪胴式拳銃[rare](still 0 ngrams) in its place if interested in preserving a collocation with 輪胴式?

  三元牌とは麻雀で使用する牌の種類で、白・發・中の牌の事です。

https://media.jannavi.net/mahjong-sangenpai/
  三元牌とは、字牌の「白・發・中」の総称です。

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/麻雀牌
  三元牌は白發中の3種である。

https://riichi.wiki/Jihai#Sangenpai
'The sangenpai 「三元牌」 (lit. three foundation tiles) are three tiles, originally representing the three Confucian values. These tiles are quite distinctive, often brightly coloured. In English, they are most often referred to as the dragons, but occasionally they are referred to as the colours.'
  Comments:
"dragon tiles" by itself doesn't indicate that there are only three types of tiles. I think it's helpful to address the "三" in "三元牌" at least implicitly by adding cross references.

Naming these tiles "dragons" is an entirely English-speaking / western phenomenon, so I'm not satisfied with the single gloss by itself. I think adding cross references is the easiest way to supplement it. In Japanese there actually does exist unrelated terminology derived from the word "dragon" (ドラ牌) which adds to the confusion.

Every Japanese definition for 「三元牌」 begins by listing the tiles.
