Comments: | I think at least the 2nd sense is worth keeping - see google images for "ストーン" (vs "stone"). Maybe it should even come before "stone." I mean, I get that "stone" can mean "gemstone" by itself but I think it's helpful to distinguish between them, esp. as many times the Japanese usage is "trinket made out of plastic" rather than "A gem or precious stone" (American Heritage® Dictionary, 5th sense for rock) |

Comments: | Why wouldn't we count it's use in words that are already entries if we're talking about absolute usage? We have over 400 entries beginning with 小/こ. That alone makes it worthy of spec1, I think. If it's that productive, it also seems likely there's probably hundreds or thousands of similar words/constructions that aren't included in the dictionary. |
|
8. | A* 2019-04-26 17:49:25 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
Comments: | not entirely sure i agree with this. despite it being called a 接頭 in most dictionaries, shinmeikai has it as 造語, and i feel like it is not particularly productive outside of words like 小皿 that we already have entries for. simply wanting something to "stand out" in comparison to other entries is not a valid reason for the tag, IMO. it should be about absolute frequency of usage. how often is this used as a productive suffix that could be added to entries that are not already in the dictionary? |

Comments: | I agree with Rene. Had 乗っ取れる been formed as a compound verb with 取れる, as opposed to be a conjugation of 乗っ取る, the 国語辞典 would have picked up on it. They haven't. |
|
2. | A* 2012-10-02 07:08:36 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
Comments: | AFAICT, this is just a standard conjugation. I don't think it's needed. |
|
1. | A* 2012-10-01 11:18:29 Francis
Comments: | I thought that the above may have been just the potential form of the following entry:- 乗っ取る(P); 乗っとる 【のっとる】 (v5r,vt) to capture; to hijack; to commandeer; to occupy; to usurp; (P) However, the site has a main entry for "取れる", i.e.,:- 取れる 【とれる】 (v1,vi,vt) (1) to come off; to be removed; (2) (of pain, a fever, etc.) to disappear; (3) (See 獲れる・1, 捕れる .1) to be caught; to be harvested; (4) to be interpreted (as); to be taken as; (5) (of balance, etc.) to be attained; (6) (potential form of 取る) (See 取る・1) to be obtainable; (P) This entry refers to the potential form, but it also covers a much wider range of meanings. The context of my reading could allow for more than just the potential so I have made this submission based upon what seems to fit the text so that your experts can take the non-potential aspects of "取れる" and confirm a more positive meaning or, of course, reject it as being nothing other than simply potential. In which case if there were a normal potential link to "取る" as well as the main entry for "取れる", this would demonstrate the more likelihood that the postential is more likely [well, maybe]. |

Comments: | This was in the text which I was reading. Searching the site, I could find "さえ" and "すれば", but not "さえすれば". When I went to the glossing, the following came up:- さえすれば (exp) as long as; KD This is not quite the same as the sum of the two parts and so I wondered about meaning. But where did the glossing come from because I search the combined dictionary. Perhaps it should be included in the main dictionary in a way that can be searched; or perhaps the glossing needs amendment. |
