that would hint at a context, but if you look at the bottom of that page,
you will notice that my entry was not "etc." but "(etc.)", which very much looks like
evidence of an accident to me: there was obviously something preceding the "(etc.)"
that got wiped out and that i cannot reconstruct after two years. 
As it stands the entry makes no sense to me, either...

Okay.  Do you think it needs to be rewritten to take match the verb PoS?  Or is it not necessary to phrase the "verbs" that also have an [exp] PoS as infinitives?

I can see Scott's point. It's often 疑問が残った/etc.  Clients like Rikainchan apparently only match on inflected forms if the dictionary entry has the POS. I suggest putting the "v5r" in. 
BTW, I see heaps of 疑問が残された/疑問が残されて/etc. That seems to imply a version: 疑問が残す, but gets minimal hits.

I would prefer this expression to be shown in a sample sentence under 解明
rather than as a headword, so as to allow for the meaning "clearly known"

Pretty obscure. Seems to have been coined by 夏目漱石 and most refs relate to his use. I even saw an academic paper discussing what he may have meant by it. I'm inclined to let it go in with Scott's gloss.
