Comments: | In principle I don't think we should split out もん's from もの's. (as I've stated previously) I'd rather endure a slightly messy entry. But also I think it'd be fine to put sK's on mazegaki forms like 田舎もん and 田舎もの, even if they're somewhat common. I don't think it's absolutely crucial we relay the word can be written like that to learners. |

Because 覆って appeared in a text i was checking and neither "Translate words" nor "Word Search" gave any hint that there is such a verb as "覆う", of which "覆って" could be an oblique form. Comments: | My current anime translates as "mage", and that seems like a useful fit to me. eijiro marks as "dated"〈古〉, but that seems a bit silly as "mage" is quite common in the English genres where this term might be used. (role playing games, historical fantasy, etc.) The fact that it's used in a recently produced/translated anime kind of makes that point for me (Frieren). I believe "mage" was a character class way back in Final Fantasy I for the NES in the late 80s. I'd also note in favor of this term, none of the other terms here would work particularly well as a substitute in this scenario. magician has modern slight-of-hand connotations. Wizards are men, witches are women, and sorcerer's are a bit too over-the-top powerful in a society with a lot of general "everyday" magic. |

Comments: | This entry is incomplete and unnecessary, :-) but it is unfortunately the one that comes up when using "Translate Words: 桟橋 【さんきょう】 (n) wharf; bridge; jetty; pier; (P); EP Since i know the reading さんばし for this item i investigated further and found that there is actually a better entry in EDIC: 桟橋 【さんきょう(P); さんばし(P)】 (n) wharf; bridge; jetty; pier Then we also have 桟橋(pier) 【?】 jetty; WI4 which looks like it wants to be merged with the EDIC entry, as well... :-) By the way, i had to go back and replace the backward slash in the original entry with the explicit remark "- backward slash -" since that character caused an even more interesting error - the one with the message that all over world people were scurrying now in order to fix the massive error that had just occurred - what a day! :-) |

Comments: | I have added ふ頭 to the main entry as suggested, and reported the "(iK)" parsing error. Normally this would not occur, as amending regular entries goes straight to the entry using the sequence number. Hendrik is possibly the only person on the planet using the combined glossing file as a regular dictionary file, so odd things are expected. For example the "RW\4", etc. at the ends of entries in that and other glossing files is there to help the glossing function to choose between possible matches (the 4 is a weighting). This is not normally a problem. |
|
1. | A* 2010-08-29 12:09:51 Hendrik | |
Comments: | This is to alert you to the fact that the following interesting entries, on account of the apparently misplaced "(iK)" comment, cause a fatal error when clicking "Suggest": 埠頭 埠頭; 阜頭(iK) 【ふとう】 (n) pier; wharf; quay 阜頭 埠頭; 阜頭(iK) 【ふとう】 (n) pier; wharf; quay In any case, they look like they could (should?) be combined with the entry: ふ頭 【ふとう】 pier; wharf; RW Oh, and a more interesting error is then caused on account of the backslash in the "Meaning(s)" section of the original entry (which i have replaced with a comment) |
