This is a rather confusing entry. I think I might have had a go at it before, but if so I don't like the result much. ;-)

Maybe some explanatory notes would help.

  Comments:
I do think we should include pastry in the first sense, or even as a separate sense. There's a discernible
difference in the search results on google images for 甘いパン vs "sweet bread". Japanese Wikipedia
describes a "Danish" like this: "デニッシュとは、パンの一種。" English wikipedia says "A Danish pastry,
sometimes shortened to just Danish, is a multilayered, laminated sweet pastry in the viennoiserie
tradition." I'm having trouble finding any English-language references to Danish pastry as "bread." On
Quora (a site I definitely don't hold in high repute, but still), the consensus seems to be that a
croissant is not a bread but a pastry. https://www.quora.com/Is-croissant-a-type-of-bread
enwiki, again, says that "Pastry is differentiated from bread by having a higher fat content"

喞筒 is not ateji (in the strict sense) as the characters are not used for their sound. Rather, ポンプ is a gikun reading of 喞筒. See the Wikipedia article above for more (mostly obsolete) gairaigo gikun examples.
I suggest adding ポンプ[gikun] to the 喞筒 entry and dropping any reference to 喞筒 from this entry. See 洋灯/ようとう/ランプ for an example of how we've handled this before.

"I don't get the rationale for using notes for the reading ..". That's not the case here. (BTW, the kanji in 喞筒 don't have the reading ポンプ.)
5. A* 2021-05-31 13:22:09  Nicolas Maia
  Comments:
It wouldn't really violate the rule since this word has a different etymology. I don't get the rationale for using notes for the reading, it seems pointless since they're not parseable and well, that's exactly what the reading field is for. If the issue is low frequency, there are ways of indicating its low usage.

Merging 1867510, as suggested by Marcus (and Rene a while back.)
甘藷 is more common, but it's a surname (かんしゃ) which skews the count.

Depending on opinions on my edit to 俳諧の連歌, not sure what you'd actually want to do with [2].

Seems [2] should be [hist] (limited to discussion of poetry development). Outside of historical discussion, one would probably assume [1].

I'm not sure [3] is actually archaic. (wiktionary only gives the poetic sense, not in sankoku) But it's elucidating to have one way or the other. Definitely in daijs as the first entry.

gikun is applied to readings, not kanji. ideally, things like gikun would refer to mappings between readings and kanji, but as it is now i can't mark ふき as gikun only with respect to certain headwords. and since it isn't a gikun reading with respect to the main headword, i can't label it at all. (closest you can manage is ateji or iK on the kanji)

「おくびにも出さない」という表現がありますが、この「おくび」に「億尾」という漢字をあてている文章が物凄くたくさんあって驚きました。
…
それは、パソコンでの変換候補の表示に原因があるようです。

this is kind of a questionable entry to begin with, but i think so. the 視 attaches to the word in front of it, which makes the する a different word, so vs-i???

maybe it would be better to delete this entry and add a (vs) sense to our existing entry for 視?

yeah, but unfortunately this can't really be a (v2a-s) because it doesn't end in う. that would have to be for 変わり得, should the need for such a thing exist. easiest way is probably to have separate entries for 変わり得る[かわりうる,かわりえる(ik)] (adj-f,exp) and 変わり得ない[かわりえない] (adj-i) and just let the other rare odds and ends like かわりうれば fall by the wayside... i don't know if there's really a need for 変わり得.

This is from gg5. Daij does not link it directly to すまない, but to 申し訳ない. Koj does list あいすむ as a mere formal way of saying すむ。 So according to koj, it would be ok to copy the すまない gloss. As for daijirin, there's probably not a huge difference between すまない and もうしわけない. I do wonder why they don't make the link between the two. So, yes copying the すまない gloss should be ok. I wish we had some more references.
