4. | A* 2010-08-19 06:38:03 Paul Blay <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I'm not certain the original reading was wrong - I think it may have been the kanji that was wrong (心 -> 芯). If you do a search on "帯に芯を入れ" you'll find a few hits. We do have words like おび‐しん 【帯心/帯×芯】 女帯の形を保つために入れる芯布。厚い綿布、三河木綿・河内木綿など。 so it's just possible 心 might also be allowable (although I found no hits for "帯に心を入れ"). The "to pad (a sash)" use of "(帯に)芯を入れる" isn't very common and probably isn't worth a separate entry. |

Comments: | I'm wondering if this phrase also has a meaning like "last chance" or "no second chances" or "no more chances". I ran across it in a context where it seems to mean that, but I couldn't find a clear definition online. At the first reference link it seems to be used that way as well-- これで失敗したら後がない -- which I assume means something like "if you screw up now, there's no second chance". And at the second reference link, ま、こっちも後が無いから, is translated as " I may not have another chance." I've not added the meaning for now, but if you think it's appropriate, please do. |
