Comments: | Meaning #8 refers to the entry for 指を詰める, and its meaning "to jam (one's finger in a door, etc.)"; however, that is not the meaning listed on the page for 指を詰める. There it says "to catch one's finger (in a door, etc.)". To "jam" one's finger is something different in English (at least as I've heard it). |

As with similar weapons, the grenade protrudes from the launch tubes. Japanese terms 手投げ弾, 手榴弾 手りゅう弾 do not appear (for example): https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPG-7 NHK guide prefers 手投げ弾. Easier to understand when heard, 手榴弾 allegedly falling out of use, use of non-joyo kanji 榴.: 「手投げ弾」と「手りゅう弾」の使い分けや決まりはある? https://www.nhk.or.jp/bunken/summary/kotoba/gimon/096.html (1)[テナケ゚ダン]が耳で聞いてわかりやすい。 (2)[テリューダン]は旧軍隊読みで、今ではなじみが薄い。 (3)[シュリューダン][テリューダン]ともに、表外字の「榴」を含む。 |

Comments: | The suggested gloss (should be aligned with xref, whatever is decided) is a bit ugly. But "hand" is often/usually omitted in practice, and there are other kinds of grenades in English(e.g. rocket-propelled)... Unlink English, if this is not a "hand grenade", the terms 手投げ弾 and 手榴弾 cannot be used. So listing "grenade" alone may be misleading as to the Japanese sense. obvious statistics to the contrary, NHK prefers 手投げ弾? Seems to be more of a radio/listening thing (mainichi.jp does not share this preference, but uses both). We don't have a lot of weaponry in [mil], so not sure about that. Mostly military ranks. But if so, xref needs it too. |

Comments: | This is (exp,v5m) right ? I wish we had a way to manage together 水温む, 水が温む, 水の温む and 水温み. Maybe with 水が温む as the headword, and then a separate sense for each form, the form being in a kind of restriction that would be searched by search engines, and would generate a specific line in Edict. In fact, it would be exactly as if alternate forms would be in the headwords, except they wouldn't (so we wouldn't have to manage restrictions between kanji and readings) .. Just some thoughts ^^; |

Comments: | We have the two other common collocations, but we are actually missing the most-common grammatical structure with も (see ngrams). This verb is almost exclusively used with some variant of "身の毛". I can't find any examples of a statement like 「よだちました」 being used without a subject, and it's hard to imagine this making any sense. Rather than including "have the creeps" here, it seems more useful to delegate that sense to the xref(s). sanoku: [おそろしさなどで]体の毛が立つ。「身の毛もー」 I grant that the wording of the kokugos seems to suggest that "弥立つ" may include the whole sentiment of "hairs standing on end due to fear", but this seems more a reflection of 弥立つ not being used *except* for this expression. If you just search for "よだつ", it's *all* some variant of the xrefs. The pronunciation いよだつ is extremely rare(though daijs does list it). I don't know what else to tag it but maybe [ok]. The [expr] xrefs already don't include it (even though it is the same verb with the same sense). It *barely* appears in old google book references. Sample search: "よだつ" "site:twitter.com" Thousands of matches, all with 毛. if you search for いよだつ instead, you get 3 links which look like false-positives. One person does make an etymological comment in a reply to a post that uses 「身の毛がよだつとな!!」 身の毛が弥立つ(いよだつ) 『弥よ』と『立つ』 『弥よ』は『いよいよ』の『いよ』だそう。 いよいよ毛が逆立つ、と言う意味らしい。 |

Comments: | This is from gg5. Daij does not link it directly to すまない, but to 申し訳ない. Koj does list あいすむ as a mere formal way of saying すむ。 So according to koj, it would be ok to copy the すまない gloss. As for daijirin, there's probably not a huge difference between すまない and もうしわけない. I do wonder why they don't make the link between the two. So, yes copying the すまない gloss should be ok. I wish we had some more references. |

Comments: | I'm struggling with the proper English description, since the flat bands of sewing elastic used for waistbands, cuffs, etc. are just called "elastic" by seamstresses in the U.S. |
