[adj-na,n]
▶ misguided equality ▶ misconceived equality ▶ leaning over backwards to be impartial |
1. | A 2010-06-04 22:37:38 Francis | |
Refs: | See below. |

Comments: | 研究社 gives the translation shown above. This balances with the concept of "equality" which is mixed with the concept of "bad," i.e., the equality does not really exist so, therefore, it is perverted. The notion of someone "leaning over backwards to be impartial," would, it seems to me, need to be represented by characters which were implying something other than "bad, evil, wickedness." For example, someone leaning over backwards to be impartial is more like, "in spite of one's own feelings on a matter, one goes even beyond being impartial in order to demonstrate that one is not being partial." JB: Which 研究社? GG5 has "misguided [misconceived] equality" and 中辞典 has "misapplied equality". "perverted" can easily send the wrong message. |

Comments: | Daijirin defines this as 物事をよく理解・習得して自分のものにすること, and it seems to me that the current EDICT definition is weighted to the 理解 and a bit short on 習得 ('grasp' is heading there but a bit cryptic as a single word). GG5 has 'master' and 'catch [the idea of]' for 会得する, and プログレッシブ和英中辞典 has "get the hang/knack of" for こつを会得する, but I'm not sure how to fit that into the EDICT format here. I have added "mastery (of an art or skill)" as my attempt which I'm sure can be improved upon... |

Although there doesn't appear to be any rule that a sense must have a part of speech, nor schema restriction, and in this case we could infer the POS, it's seems that there is a complementary rule regarding nouns that they should not be infered from previous entries and must be listed. |

Comments: | 顔認証 and 顔認識 are two different words but I'm not really quite sure of the difference or how to sum it up in a simple gloss. Regardless, in this entry the Headword and the Reading do not match, so I've gone for 顔認識 as I'm more familiar with that term. JB: I made this "new" and also corrceted the reading of 顔認証. |

I was going to say "this has many more hits on Google" to back myself up, but the number of results seems to have vanished from Google's page, leaving me to console myself with the "Wonder Wheel". Is there a way to get the number back, or has it gone for good? |
