Comments: | 椿 itself is not [uk]. Any obvious pairings (夏、雪). probably won't be either. As with several other 椿 entries, apparently not [uk]. Not extremely common on twitter, but 夏椿 certainly appears at least as popular as the kana form. More often than not, they seem to appear together (which would explain the ngrams being pretty close). Here's a gardening article that almost exclusively uses the kanji form(just mentions the kana one time). https://gardenstory.jp/plants/69563 椿 is jinmeiyo, so newspapers are not "supposed" to use it for flowers (as I understand it). Kanji certainly underrepresented in "proper" news results. |

Comments: | That 栃木弁 page, which I am sure is right about おわす, doesn't indicate the kanji. I'm pretty sure you picked the wrong one here. If we need an entry for that おわす, it needs to be a new one. I can see snippets in WWW pages such as "人手がある内に忙しく田植えを終す(おわす)のも時代の流れ". Paul Blay (accidently?) left the POS of this one as "n". Daijr says it's 動サ変. |
