Comments: | Reopen. BTW, re the 2017 comment: `For うかがえる JMdict says "See: 伺う,..."', Actually JMdict never said that, it's a function in WWWJDIC that tries to point users towards possibly useful entries when they look up an inflected form. I've updated the file so that the うかが* batch now points to both 伺う and 窺う. |

Comments: | OK, finally moving on this one. I've remodelled the entry along the lines of GG5 and other JEs. I'll approve and reopen, as I want to sort out the example sentences, most of which are for the proposed first two senses. |

Refs: | GG5: (1) 〔訪問する〕 call on sb; call at 《a place, a house》; visit; pay sb a visit; come [go] and see 《you》; come [go] over. (2) 〔尋ねる〕 ask 《sb about sth》; inquire 《of sb about sth》. (3) 〔聞く〕 hear; be told. Other JEs are similar. 66 sentences, most of which match GG5's sense 1. |
|
Comments: | I suspect this needs a major rework along the lines of the GG5 entry. |

Comments: | From the quoted references, it would appear 'to go' (or even 'to come') is a more apt translation than 'to visit'. In almost all examples in both sources, translating in to 'go' seems to make more sense. For example, in the former reference, the following example is given: 「...お決まりになりましたら、お伺いいたします。」Clearly the waitress in this example is saying 'Once you've decided your order, I'll come back.' rather than 'I'll visit you again.' In fact, these sources even liken 伺う to 参る (and 行く), which means 'come/go' (the only difference being 謙譲語I and 謙譲語II). |

Comments: | Kinda winging it here... but the sandbar shark is commonly called ヤジブカ in Japanese as well as メジロザメ. These two should be an entry for the species, and 目白鮫 and its reading めじろざめ should just stick to the general case of requiem sharks (also the entry is wrong in that requiem sharks are a Family and not a Genus. Genus and Family name is already entered so this would be another entry that means pretty much the same thing as Family entry). |
