Refs: | Can be "working" rather than just *starting* work: GG5: - 就労する 〔仕事をする〕 work; ... - 就労日数[時間] work(ing) 「days [hours]. KOD: - 就労環境 working conditions; a [one's] working [work] environment. - 過去に就労経験がある人 a person with previous work experience. . In this context, "starting work" seems ambiguous. It could mean "starting to do one's job" or "starting a new job". If it's the former, is there any evidence for that sense? If it's the latter, it would be clearer to have it as a second sense: #1 working #2 starting work; being employed; being hired . Or "starting work" could be simply left out of the definition. |

Comments: | This gets over 70k of Google hits. The beginner can find "農耕" and the reading of "のうこう" in any dictionary. However, what reading does the novice give to "地"? In my own references, the kanji for "地" is simply added-on in order to give one of the examples of usage, but without any reading. The experienced person probably knows the answer to this and would regard it as obvious. I did a Google search, as you have suggested, based upon the characters and the reading, and, as you would know, the answer is "のうこうち." Would you consider the inclusion of this headword in your main dictionary? As we have noted before, it is often the prefix and the suffix to the main reading which gives so much plague to the beginner [an perhaps also the person who is not such a beginner]. |
