Comments: | 褪める is indeed さめる (coming from the old 二段 verb 褪む), but no 漢和 shows さ.める as a 訓読み for 褪. It's one of those grey cases. Daijirin says of 褪める "〔「冷める」と同源〕", which is not a lot of help. I'm not going to add to the kanjidic readings for 褪. |

Comments: | No change to the above. When I clicked on "examine", one of the entries was:- 褪 [JIS] 6A74 [Uni] 892a [部首] 145 [画数] 15 [音] タイ トン [訓] あ.せる ぬ.ぐ [英] fade; discolour This entry shows 15 strokes. It seems to me that the stroke count should be 14, i.e., the higher of the following stroke count, plus 5:- 退 [JIS] 4260 [Uni] 9000 [部首] 162 [教育] 5 [画数] 9 [画数] 8 [音] タイ [訓] しりぞ.く しりぞ.ける ひ.く の.く の.ける ど.く [英] retreat; withdraw; retire; resign; repel; expel; reject. Also, the reading of "さめる" which is included in the main entry above and also included in such dictionaries as Kenkyusha is not included in the kanji details for "褪" above. Maybe the kanji details are not generated by your dictionary and maybe you have no control over them, in which case my apologies for using the above main entry as a vehicle for comment on this matter. Also, I hope that I have not missed some obvious point and wasted your time. |

10. | A* 2014-03-12 09:19:40 Jacopo Tedeschi <...address hidden...>
Comments: | It is interesting however notice when you check common usages as adj 来たる has more hits: It seems the notation 来たるべき is quite established "来たるべき" -> 4,980,000 "来るべき" -> 2,290,000 In other cases 来る surpasses 来たる by an average 40% "来る者" -> 974,000 "来たる者" -> 617,000 "来る春" -> 74,800 "来たる春"-> 43,700 Except for dates, where 来る clearly wins over 来たる being from 5 to 10 times more used. "来る4月" -> 1,250,000 "来たる4月" -> 233,000 "来る25日" -> 156,000 "来たる25日" -> 15,500 I suppose the reason is quite intuitive: when you have dates it is very easy to understand 来る is meant to be read きたる. It is a shorter notation, very practical. However in other cases even Japanese people get confused. When they see 来る者 for instance, they will need to think how to read it, while 来たる here avoids ambiguity. That is the same reason 来たるべき with the time became such an established notation. It is not only us to have problems reading kanji, Japanese people go though the same hardships. |

8. | A* 2014-03-12 08:02:57 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
Refs: | daijr 3rd ed has 来たる as well now, but only in its entry for the verb. daijr's entry for adj-pn is strictly 来る. |
|
Comments: | -some dictionaries (e.g., daijr, meikyo) suggest that when a verb it should be written as 来る, whereas when adj-pn it should be written as 来たる. -i don't think an ichi tag is out of line for this entry. sense 1 is old-fashioned but sense 2 is not uncommon. i suspect that the ichi tag legitimately belongs on 来る, though i have no evidence. |

Comments: | (a) Yes, the "Ichiman" wordlist does have 来る/きたる on it. (b) I see two modern refs are now using 来たる, so the "io" should come off it. (c) It might be prudent to put the "ichi1" tag on 来たる instead, in which case it should go first? (d) I have no idea which of 来たる/きたる and 来る/きたる is more common. It's difficult to test. |

The two species are examples from the family, should they really be in this entry? "Mangosteem" was already on Edict, but the Japanese family name is taken from (a close relative of) St. John's wort. |

On the other similar-type entries, both "例" and "譬" are included in the same entry, see for example:- "例え(P); 譬え 【たとえ】 (n) example; simile; metaphor; allegory; parable" Should you decide to promote the above entry, then maybe you would consider including the alternative kanji [譬] as well in the entry. You may also like to delete entries like the following, which entries seem to be, or would be if the above were promoted, clearly covered in main entries:- 例語 【れいご】 a word for example; WI 譬 【たと】 (?) ???; RH 譬【たとえ】 (?) ???; RH 譬 【ひ】 (?) ???; RH [P.S. Once again I am seeing a caution. Perhaps I am doing something odd. Anyway, the caution is as follows:- Caution: The following existing entries contain kanji or readings that exist in your proposed entry. Before submitting your entry, please make sure that it is not a duplicate of, or should not be an amendment to, one of these entries. 1556950 冷語 【 れいご 】 hard words Caution: One or more senses you gave do not have any PoS (Part-of-Speech, for example [n], [v5k], etc.) tags. Comments: | I wonder if we can have an entry for this. There are millions of them on a Google search. The novice may be left to wonder if the "先" is "せん" or "さき". However, most references seem to go for "せん". My apologies if I have missed this on the site, but I have tried in several ways to find it. I just felt that with such a large usage, I must have missed something. I know it comes up as part of some wider meanings, but those entries do not not seem to be in the main dictionary. |
