褪める is indeed さめる (coming from the old 二段 verb 褪む), but no 漢和 shows さ.める as a 訓読み for 褪. It's one of those grey cases. Daijirin says of 褪める "〔「冷める」と同源〕", which is not a lot of help.
I'm not going to add to the kanjidic readings for 褪.

Sense switch is appropriate, I think. All good points about 来る/来たる.

It is interesting however notice when you check common usages as adj 来たる has more hits:

It seems the notation 来たるべき is quite established

In other cases 来る surpasses 来たる by an average 40%
"来る者" -> 974,000
"来たる者"　-> 617,000

Except for dates, where 来る clearly wins over 来たる being from 5 to 10 times more used.

I suppose the reason is quite intuitive: when you have dates it is very easy to understand 来る is meant to be read きたる. It is a shorter notation, very practical. However in other cases even Japanese people get confused. When they see 来る者 for instance, they will need to think how to read it, while 来たる here avoids ambiguity. That is the same reason 来たるべき　with the time became such an established notation. It is not only us to have problems reading kanji, Japanese people go though the same hardships.

(a) Yes, the "Ichiman" wordlist does have 来る/きたる on it.
(b) I see two modern refs are now using 来たる, so the "io" should come off it.
(c) It might be prudent to put the "ichi1" tag on 来たる instead, in which case it should go first?
(d) I have no idea which of 来たる/きたる and 来る/きたる is more common. It's difficult to test.

The two Latin names are official alternatives for the same 
family, not different families.  The two species are 
examples from the family, should they really be in this

I was actually looking for "譬語 [ひご]".
On the other similar-type entries, both "例" and "譬" are included in the same entry, see for example:-

"例え(P); 譬え 【たとえ】 (n) example; simile; metaphor; allegory; parable"

Should you decide to promote the above entry, then maybe you would consider including the alternative kanji [譬] as well in the entry.

You may also like to delete entries like the following, which entries seem to be, or would be if the above were promoted, clearly covered in main entries:-

I am wondering if it would help to have this combination as a main entry. It appears following other kanji in great numbers. Meanings are ascribed to the wider combinations, but no so for this submission, yet the basic concept seems clear enough.

I wonder if we can have an entry for this. There are millions of them on a Google search. The novice may be left to wonder if the "先" is "せん" or "さき". However, most references seem to go for "せん".

My apologies if I have missed this on the site, but I have tried in several ways to find it. I just felt that with such a large usage, I must have missed something. I know it comes up as part of some wider meanings, but those entries do not not seem to be in the main dictionary.

I think "perhaps not much, but some" is an awkward-sounding gloss.
"in any way" was for contexts like "If I could help in any way ..." but I'm fine with dropping it. It's potentially misleading.

Seems to be written in katakana more often than hiragana (or

Edict already has オトギリソウ科、 the family (=Clusiaceae).  
It was missing the species name itself, and also オトギリソウ
属 (genus = Hypericum) and オトギリソウ目 (order = 
Guttiferales), which I'll submit in a moment.
