Comments: | Well, in the end I guess it's up to you to make an "executive decision" if you think including certain words could hurt the project. We do otoh already have a ニガー entry. I agree the n-word doesn't really belong here, it's not half as strong as くろんぼ. But I think including "darkie; golliwog" would help. We decided after some debate that [ctr] entries should begin with "counter for..." despite them already having the [ctr] tag. One of the arguments was that people don't look too closely at the tags. If we accept that argument here, it could lead a beginner to think this was a useful synonym to "黒人", or to somebody called this not realized the negative connotations of the word. (and that's without even getting into all the other reasons why we try to match register in the first place, like being helpful to translators, etc.) I have a hard time imagining anybody accusing us of being racist for accurately translating a word that's used in a racist manner. |

Comments: | Odd, maybe, but this is VERY sensitive topic in many parts of the Enlish-speaking world. The last thing I want is knee-jerk censorship and pillorying of this whole project because of an attempt to match register. I'm afraid MILF is/was not in the same league as this one. |

Comments: | The motivation for my search was basically a note from Chinese [which I do not have much knowledge of, other than its existence] which used "发". I check for the non-simplified version and found "發". Then I searched for that on your site [then followed the sequence which I explained]. I was only motivated to make the submission for the reason stated, so if there is a problem of linkage then I guess that settles that matter. Having got to where I got to, I have satisfied my own need for information. |

Comments: | Clarify what kind of bamboo References for exactly what kind of bamboo this refers to are very mixed, and seems to be applied to various different species and genera (as with ササ). Notably, GG5 and koj both mention 矢竹(ヤダケ) = arrow bamboo (Pseudosasa japonica), which is unambiguous, but koj mentions in the same breath メダケ and others (esp. at synonymous 篠竹(シノダケ)) also mention this and other species of the Pleioblastus genus, so I’ve put that separately. I haven’t changed the “thin-culmed dwarf bamboo” gloss, but this looks like it could use a bit of work. |

Comments: | A Consideration that occurred when editing the entry for させる, using -nai stem for the usage note in this verb will most likely lead the reader to incorrectly believe that it connects to する as しぬ, rather than せぬ. Perhaps the term -nai stem for this entry should be replaced with 未然形, though that makes it ambiguous as 五段 have お and あ and サ変 have さ、し、せ and arguably しょ. Maybe changing it to "after せ~ form of suru class verbs or -nai stem of other verbs; negates verbs in non-past tense" would address the issue? |

Comments: | Removing 2 as it should be its own entry: they have different meanings, conjugation paradigms and etymologies; added note to better describe function. Questioning: Is the suffix tag on auxiliaries that formally connect a to verb stem and are never added after nouns/nominals necessary? Looking at the definition for 接尾語 in daijs, meikyo and daijr, the defining characteristic of a 接尾語 seems to be whether or not they can be attached directly to 体言 or things applicable to them(such as the root of an adjective or adjectival verb). For example, the 助動詞 らしい is listed as connecting to the 終止形 of adjectives and verbs as well as to 体言 in both daijs and daijr, but the らしい registered as a 接尾語 says only「名詞・副詞,または形容動詞の語幹などに付いて...」(Note: quote is from daijr which does not nominally cite adjective roots but daijs does). It is possible that a revision for the criteria for the suffix tag is in order. |
