I don't think there's any overlap in meaning between アクセル and アクセラレーター. With the exception of daijr, all the kokugos (that I have access to) only have the gas pedal sense for アクセル. And most of them say it comes from "accelerator", not アクセラレーター.

"In modern Japanese, ateji principally refer to kanji used to phonetically represent native or borrowed words with less regard to the underlying meaning of the characters. This is similar to man'yōgana in Old Japanese. Conversely ateji also refers to kanji used semantically without regard to the readings."

Not really ateji as the meaning of the characters is important in these betrothal gift words. It's really an instance of phono-semantic matching.

Your suggestion weighed heavily in this decision.
I have no idea how the 大 there came to be regarded as a prefix.

Not sure where the "large part of" sense came from. It doesn't appear to correspond to any sense in the refs.
I've deleted that sense and moved sense 1 up. I've also created a new sense 2.
This affects all the sentences tagged as sense 2. Is it easy enough to reindex them (2->1)?

Enamdict entry corrected.

The 1923 building was demolished (in the 1970s?) and a clunky new one built. I stayed in the new one for a week in late 1981. The old one was partially resconstructed in the Meijimura theme park in Kinki. I visited it in 2001.

i don't know. in most cases i'm skeptical about the usefulness of explaining what's essentially the etymology or breakdown of words. i don't think we're really in the etymology game

  Comments:
I have fixed this one "by hand" - I have put a composite 学生 entry into the "specials" file with the がくせい gloss first.
I possibly can do this automatically, but it's not a common problem, and may be best handles on a case-by-case basis.
3. A* 2012-10-01 05:58:44  Hendrik
  Comments:
When using the function "Text Glossing" ("Text/Word Translation"), any occurrence of 学生 in the text under investigation brings up the result shown below, that is, three senses marked "arch" appear before the one marked "P". Is there a way to make the system show "P" before unmarked and both "P" and unmarked before "arch" and "obs"?

Illustrating example: 学生
Result:
学生 【がくしょう; がくそう】 (n) (1) (arch) Heian-period student of government administration; (2) (arch) Buddhist scholar; researcher at a Buddhist temple; person studying Buddhism; (3) (arch) learning; scholarship; 【がくせい】 ; (n) student (esp. a university student); (P); ED
