Comments: | I understand what you are saying, but there are other ways of thinking about this. I prefer to view やばい, ヤバい and ヤバイ as the same word. Thus I view やばかない as an inflected form of ヤバイ. I think you are attaching too much importance to the hiragana/katakana difference. |
|
9. | A 2016-09-13 23:50:54 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | The point is that ヤバイ usually won't inflect. Having said that, I see ヤバクナイ gets 559 in the n-grams, and while ヤバクナカッタ doesn't score there, it can be seen in 2ch posts and Tweets. |

Comments: | Possibly remove statistics? [news2,nf40] Both forms are common names, news results all seem to be proper names. "manliness" seems like an English invention here, and a somewhat anachronistic gloss in 2023. Certainly nothing inherent in the dictionary definitions suggests "manly" beyond the idea of "firmness of character" being an "innately" manly attribute. Never translated as "manly"/"manliness" in reverso. I can't imagine actually translating 剛毅な as "manly" today. Interesting overlap with 剛気;豪気, almost mergeable, but I think the split is fine (kokugos split). ngrams inflated because this is a common name. |

Comments: | I don't remember where I saw this, but I'm quite sure 煮る means to boil in a broth or stew(ie not plain water). Thus giving a distinction between the two words which are both translated as to boil. |

Comments: | This picks up 13k google hits. I suppose that the meaning is obvious. It was clearly a meaning similar to the above in the text that I was reading. One confirmation was seen in the search, namely:- "常世神とムーシケー : 異装の演者と神の関係について Tokoyogami and μουσικη on relationship between performers with unusual costume and gods ..." Perhaps you will consider promotion. P.S. I have been searching around trying to find the meaning of "殺さる". Google shows up a reading of "ころさる", but the meaning is not clear. It could be something like "leave killing" which would fit the text which I was reading. There are many Google hits, but that is as far as I can go. I have tried several dictionaries. Anyway, I wondered if you have the answer and if so perhaps you could incude it in the main dictionary. |
