Comments: | I understand what you are saying, but there are other ways of thinking about this. I prefer to view やばい, ヤバい and ヤバイ as the same word. Thus I view やばかない as an inflected form of ヤバイ. I think you are attaching too much importance to the hiragana/katakana difference. |
|
9. | A 2016-09-13 23:50:54 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | The point is that ヤバイ usually won't inflect. Having said that, I see ヤバクナイ gets 559 in the n-grams, and while ヤバクナカッタ doesn't score there, it can be seen in 2ch posts and Tweets. |

Refs: | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_rat The brown rat (Rattus norvegicus), also known as the common rat, street rat, sewer rat, wharf rat, Hanover rat, Norway rat and Norwegian rat, is a widespread species of common rat. Even here: https://www.pestworld.org/pest-guide/rodents/norway-rats/ The Norway rat commonly referred to as the street or sewer rat, is believed to be of Asian origin, arriving in the U.S. on ships from other countries in the 1700s. |
|
Comments: | The lit translation is "gutter rat", so the "street rat" and "sewer rat" given by Wikipedia seem quite appropriate. Looking at yourei results, there's a lot of colloquial dialog, and these seem like the most useful glosses. "Norway Rat" looks potentially useful for a pest-control company translating their website (this is what comes up in English...). Probably not so useful in literature. |

Comments: | I propose splitting 並行 and 平行/併行 into separate entries. They only share one sense and when someone looks up 平行, the first sense they'll see is sense 2, which is usually written 並行. I also think it would be a good idea to have separate [adj-na] and [n,vs] senses for sense 3 (so we can have "running parallel" as a gloss). Doing this here would be messy. Finally, I see no reason not to use noun glosses for senses 1 and 2. |
