Comments: | There aren't really any "language officials in Japan". I think you are referring to the bureaucrats in the education ministry who control what is taught to school kids. I (and a lot of other people) don't have a high opinion of a lot of what they do. I have a dig at the "grey-suited men in the smoke-filled rooms in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, etc., etc." in the referenced article. I'm quite happy to include this entry. |

Refs: | NHK Accent. Sounds like the language officials in Japan want people to say じっぷん because じゅっ- isn't an official reading for 十.
