Except that it's used for instrumental music as well. Songs involve voices. Either we have several glosses or one more general one. |

I think Robin's "song being performed" was better? " item on a concert program" seems overly specific to me and isn't a great match for the first refs posted. |

The sense we have here isn't a music term. It refers to songs/pieces on a set list/programme. Is there another sense? |

I meant "song" as in something that's exclusively sung, not accompanied by instruments, which is how I interpreted it in "performance piece (instrumental, song, etc.)" |

It could be a song, e.g. in a lieder recital. Should be tagged as music term - that's where I've seen it. |

Sorry, I stuffed up on this. I must have pasted in the wrong term (I blame my tablet.)
演奏 means performance, esp. of music, and 曲 is typically a piece of music. It's by no means restricted to songs, i.e. things that are sung (although these days apps and websites try and call symphony and sonata movements "songs".)
I suggest a fairly generic gloss. |

I saw it in the context of a high school rock band, a list of their songs w this word as the title.
If this can mean "etude/study" I think it should be a separate sense from a more general "song (featuring instruments)" |

Could you paste the definitions here? (This isn't in my editions of daijr and koj.) I'd be surprised if they treated it as a synonym of "etude". |
