New entry, I think. We have separate entries for そんな and んな. |

New entry? or sK and sks here?
(only sense 2 I think) |

sense 1 use vs sense 2:
"そんなバカな" 9 vs 3
"そんな馬鹿な" 4 vs 2
I don't think we have coverage to say that sense 2 is more commonly そんなバカな - it is, yes, but then again so is
sense 1. |

Well, it can't go in without its usual meaning, otherwise it's quite misleading. I'll put Nicolas' proposed sense in as #2 with a usage note, approve and reopen if we want to discuss it further. |

Also I think the note is a bit of an
overstatement, it can be an "abbr" of "そ
んな馬鹿な話がない!" etc. If it's really
correct to call it an abbr... |

I just don't think that's correct, 馬鹿
and バカ are perfectly interchangeable.
There might be a tendency like you
described but I don't think it makes sense
to exclude either surface form jist based
on that. |

As I said on 22 July; "Looking at this further, I see that the "such an idiotic ...." usage is usually そんな馬鹿な and the "no way!; what nonsense!" usage is usually そんなバカな. " I think if the 馬鹿 version comes back, we have to put the "such an idiotic ...." type of gloss back in as well or we'll be basically mistranslating the most common usage. |

I'm happy to keep it, but I don't think it
makes sense to keep the 馬鹿 form out. |

No-one else is responding on this, so I'm going to let it in as the interjection with the バカ form. I'll reopen it for a while for comments, if any. |

Looking at this further, I see that the "such an idiotic ...." usage is usually そんな馬鹿な and the "no way!; what nonsense!" usage is usually そんなバカな. Perhaps the way forward with this is just to have the そんなバカな expression. People can work out そんな馬鹿な(こと) for themselves.
Would that work? |

I can see that this is being used as a stand-alone expression as proposed in this entry, but most of the time it is "just" the very compositional そんな + 馬鹿 + な as in "such an idiotic ....". It's in one GG5 example and 14 Tanaka sentences but all but 2 of them are of the style:
どうしてそんな馬鹿な事が言えるんですか。 How can you say such a silly thing?
I've suggested a separate sense, but it conceivably could be combined. |
