is there a better reference? kotobank is nearly worthless now that they don't show which readings/headwords correspond to which entries. and kojien has always been a weird mix of kokugo and kanwa when it comes to single-kanji entries

can you confirm that the 古代中国の九州の長官。転じて、地方長官。また、地方官。役人。〔書経‐立政〕 sense from nikkoku is read as ぼく?

eijiro and 斎藤和英大辞典 translate "地方長官" as "provincial governor", but I'm not sure if the "provincial" part is right
