Wikipedia's description of a "geographical feature" seems to match the kokugos' definitions for 地物 quite closely.

They don't actually. Eijiro is a rag-tag collection and while OK for fleshing out glosses can't be relied on greatly. The Weblio site points to lots of sources, some good and some quite poor. You need to dig into them and verify them. For example "planimetric feature" means something on a map. Not much help as a gloss for 地物.

Why don't they work? Most JEs use those terms.

Neither terrestrial nor planimetric work here. I think the previous version was closer to the kokugos.
