This is a bit wider in usage. The hand does not need to be in tenpai.
I have heard many commentators say カンチャンを手に入れた when a player draws the missing tile. |

Also, might it not be better to use terms like "chow" etc.
than "three-in-a-row"? It's my impression that these terms are
relatively well-known (esp. among mahjong players) |
