Yes, all mu JE references say "differential coefficient", but they probably copy from each other. Also it's a very 直訳 gloss. Still best left, I guess. |

"differential coefficient" is a really, and I mean *REALLY* obsolete way of saying "derivative". I cannot find it anywhere but in 19th century calculus textbooks. So even though the Japanese word 微分係数 is still used today, I don't think that the literal translation is appropriate. But nonetheless, I'm hesitant to remove the second gloss. |
