Comments: | * Fix pos: actually [adj-ku], now that we can handle it * Correspondingly change to adj, not adv form of glosses * Add “without regrets” (daijr 4) As per earlier note, v. common in kyōgen as 念無う早かった (ねんのうはやかった) “Unexpectedly fast” after the master summons a servant. (Both daijr and koj give this example) (Note the Middle Japanese adverbal 〜う and the -ashi > -ou change as in 早う hayou from 早し hayashi.) |

Comments: | Let's just have it as "exp" for now. |

Comments: | This seems to be a pretty archaic phrase; I found it in the even more archaic form 念無う(ねんのう) in the 狂言「しびり」、 where it is used to mean “unexpectedly”, though the phrase seems to have other uses. I’m also not sure on the best part of speech (I think it’s the same as other 〜し modifiers); the 国語字引 give it as 形ク and the phrase I saw it in was 念無う早かった (太郎冠者 responds unexpectedly quickly to 主人). |
