Comments: | These counts show that 年を追う is indeed almost always followed by ごとに or 毎に. I think the ~毎に version should be recorded, since it is actually used about 10% of the time. |

Comments: | Basically this is never used alone, and it most definitely needs ~ごとに to get the "year after year" meaning. ごと could be written 毎 but I chose not to include this as it balloons up the kanji part and because it is recommended to write words with grammatical function in hiragana. |
