Refs: | google images agree w coping, top rail, but the kokugos describe something kinda different: koj: 鳥居や門・板塀などの上にわたす横木 daijr: 鳥居・門・板塀などの上縁に,横に渡す木。 daijs: 鳥居や門・塀・手すりなどの上端に渡す横木。 these sound more like a cross-beam/lintel? google results for 鳥居 笠木 show it being the upper part of the top cross-beam, which is sometimes looks like top rail/coping, but in other instances is just a beam |
