I am afraid this is quite beyond me; the proposed 4 senses look like the same thing. I suspect it is straying in the direction of an encyclopaedia entry. I like GG5's "a master in esoteric Buddhism; a 「high [senior] priest."

Significantly elaborate – many shades of meaning, as per 国語辞書
Basic sense is “initiate (in esoteric Buddhism)”, which in Japan means “Tendai & Shingon”, but it’s also a specific rank, term of respect, and specific activities.
Heard in conversation (yes, really), referring to a marathon monk who’d completed the 回峰行 circuit twice (酒井雄哉 as it turns out). (Sense was “honorific”/“engaged in austerities”.)
