Moreso than 夏椿, unambiguously not [uk], at least 雪 is usually kanji. I guess if you add up every form, maybe 椿 is usually some kana variety, but 雪椿 is still quite common overall...
Image search returns plenty of titles that lead with the kanji form. Kanji perfectly common on twitter. I know 51+% kana = [uk], but I think the distinction is most important when it's one of the 5~10% kana forms, which at very least this is not.
(phrased differently, I think these kanji are worth remembering if you care about the flower name to begin with) |
