Splitting out 2 kanji like this feels too ad hoc to me.

Need to be broader - "'s" is the wrong register in many situations.
I still want to keep this distinct from the everyday の - these kanji forms are real outliers, and are not in most dictionaries.
We still need to resolve the handling of explanatory "meanings".

I get there's a lot of history to this discussion but I think it's only confusing to have this separate from the main の entry with an 
[arch]. I think it'd be better to add these to the kanji field of the other の entry and tag them as oK

Better? "possessive article" just isn't right, that's not what の means, it's what の is.
