Japanese sites tend to use キリンケツヤシ for "Daemonorops draco". One at least has 麒麟血椰子 as the kanji. I guess that 椰子 is redundant. I've emailed the Kenkyusha contact. |

i think it's another error in gg5... their "Daemonoropus draco" gets 1 hit. google's recommended "Daemonorops draco" gets 117,000
=====
also, kokugos define it only as the resin of 竜血樹, which is "Dracaena" according to all sources (inc. gg5). "Dracaena" and "Daemonorops" aren't the same, as per wikipedia's entry for Dracaena:
"A bright red resin, dragon's blood, is produced from [Dracaena] draco and, in ancient times, from D. cinnabari. Modern dragon's blood is however more likely to be from the unrelated Daemonorops rattan palms."
=====
i wonder if this is a case of someone translating きりんけつ as "dragon's blood" and then another editor coming along later and adding the (wrong) species name based on the english. in any case, at the very least their spelling is wrong. |
