I've seen discussions of certain years as "year of the [element] [zodiac]" before, though? Come to think of it, I think it'd be a mistake for
a translator to translate 辛酉 dryly just as "58th year of the sexagenary cycle" when "year of the Metal Rooster" is so much more evocative
(depending on the tone/audience, etc., of course.).

"Many Japanese families chose not to have children in 1966 due to their superstition of “Hinoe-Uma (Fire-Horse)”. Fire-Horse is the 43rd
combination of the sexagenary cycle, which happens every 60 years. The superstition is that women born in this year of the “Fire-Horse” have
a bad personality and will kill their future husband."

"Could being born in a year deemed unlucky wind up a self-fulfilling prophecy? That may be what befell Japanese girls born in 1966, otherwise
known as a year of the fire horse, or hinoeuma in Japanese."

The data compiled for our study show that there has been marked variation in fertility rates annually or over shorter durations in response
to events with cultural significance or policy change. For example, the TFR in Singapore increased from 2·01 livebirths in 1999 to 2·39
livebirths in 2000, whereas in Japan in 1966—the year of the Fire Horse, during which giving birth to females was deemed unlucky80—the TFR
decreased by 13% in a single year.

"The Year of the Metal Rat starts from Chinese New Year on January 25, and is traditionally believed to be a year that brings new
opportunities in the areas of love and earnings. "

I think that's pushing it a bit far. |
