My earlier References referred to マラスゲ as an example of a
sedge name using すげfrom outside of the genus Carex. I meant
to type マルスゲ and include this link,
http://biwa118.web.fc2.com/wild_plants2/marusuge.htm
which gives マルスゲ as another name for フトイ (Scirpus
tabernaemontani). |

Japanese names for plants in the family Cyperaceae, but
outside of the genus Carex, appear to also use the character
菅 (すげ). Examples include ハマスゲ [浜菅 (はますげ)] and マラスゲ. |

I came across this apparent oversight recently while reading,
but am not an expert in biological naming in Japanese. |
