Comments: | I think the "nothing (with neg. verb)" usage should be mentioned. It makes up over 2/3 of the usage of 何事も in the Tanaka sentences, for example. Cases like 何事もなく are immediately obvious, but in sentences like 何事も彼女が彼と結婚することを妨げる事はできない the verb is a long way down the text. I realise the JEs don't split senses in these cases, but I have no problem with it being a sense. Either way it should be there somewhere. |

Comments: | I don't think a "nothing" sense is necessary. 何事もなく means "without anything (happening)". |
