I don't think that's the source. The meaning doesn't match and neither reading is げっちゅう. It's definitely the 月中 in 1月中, 2月中, 3月中, etc., hence n-suf.
I don't think げっちゅう is needed either. It's only in daijr and nikk. Likely obscure and/or archaic, as you said. |

Not really a suffix. It's the 月 part of the month name plus 中. (Also, げつちゅう is wrong.)
This may have been added because we also have 月中/つきなか, but I don't think it's a valid entry. |
