Comments: | The JEs are not wrong but they are trying to give natural translations. The JEs assume you know what the Japanese means already. It's very rarely that "seem bitter" - unless the context specifically calls for it - would be used over plain "is bitter" in natural English prose. It's a good idea to be better than the JEs here, even if it makes the glosses awkward. |

Comments: | As before, I think these seem/appear glosses for the XXがる verbs are a bit overdone. I find it hard to believe the JEs are so consistently wrong. |
